I'm an Emmy award-winning director/producer who is currently creating the premier online arts and culture playground for adults and children.
Embarking on this journey is adventurous and exciting, just like the virtual place I'm creating.
So far, I've been surrounded by talented and professional minds who are working with me to break new ground.
The first online adventure will be a tool for children, a guide for parents and a partner to schools. Most of all, it will be fun!
In the coming weeks ahead, I'll be revealing more details and searching for other passionate and exceptional artists, writers and blue sky thinkers to join us on the journey.
Stay tuned!
Opal was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent her formative years growing up in Queens. Being part of a city filled with music, theater, dance and beautiful architecture continually made an impression on her young mind. While attending catholic schools and rebelling every other second of each day, she gained a reputation for challenging the nuns and questioning all the rules.
She later graduated from New Mexico State University, and began living in San Francisco. After becoming a pseudo hippie, she created her first documentary on incarcerated mothers at a local women's prison. Her second film entitled, The Women's Movement, featured modern dance and would influence her life forever.
She then studied video art and loved every moment. But making a living at video art seemed improbable, so her next turn was to broadcast television. She hosted and produced programs for the local PBS station and found a home in community and cultural programming.
Her brief stint as the public information director for two major cities, Miami Beach and Miami, was amazing. She knew the her days were numbered when she arrived at work one morning to find her boss, the mayor, had left a loopy and bizarre message for a NY Times reporter.
With politics behind her, she became more focused than ever. Helping others through community service and media was her theme at both the Sun-Sentinel and The Miami Herald.
Just when things were beginning to go smoothly, the newspaper business took a major dive. Opal's next position was a major departure from her comfortable media world. Working for a financial servicer brought travel, and the challenging task of helping homeowners avoid foreclosure.
Some say, leaving her lucrative position in the current economy was foolish. It was. And she'enjoying every foolish minute!
She has now come full circle and is cultivating the next generation of arts and culture lovers.
